We've absolute confidence on this squad that we'll be able to pull up from the next game: Virat Kohli
In match 31, Royal Challengers Bangalore team stepped out on the field wearing Blue Jerseys, as a tribute to the frontline workers for their immense contribution in fighting against Covid-19. The blue jersey resembled the PPE Kit to support and honour frontline warriors.
Playing his 200th IPL Match, RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss & elected to bat first. The Challengers introduced two debutants in the squad - K Bharat & Wanindu Hasaranga. It was one distinct day where the RCB batsmen couldn't find their rhythm with the bat. Varun Chakravarthy was the wrecker-in-chief for the Knights with his miserly bowling spell. The off-spinner returned with figures of 3 for 14 in his four-over spell.
When asked about how important a role Varun Chakravarthy will play for India in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, Kohli lauded the off-spinner. Considering the mystery element that he offers to the table, he considers Varun to be a vital cog for India in the flagship tournament.
"Pretty good, that's exactly what I was saying in the dug-out, he's going to be a key factor when he plays for India. We need to see performances like these from all the youngsters so that the bench strength of Indian cricket stays strong. And, he's someone who is going to play in the near future for India and it's a great sign."
With 92 runs on board to chase, Kolkata Knight Riders went about their innings with positive intent, overhauling the total in the 10th over of the innings. Venkatesh Iyer, the KKR debutant, batted with authority & conviction, scoring unbeaten 41 runs.
Despite the loss, Royal Challengers Bangalore stand 3rd in the points table with 10 points in 8 games, having won 5 out of them. In a long tournament of IPL, it is important to remain positive.
"It was important to get a good partnership on this surface. We honestly didn't expect that much dew to kick in so early, we couldn't have predicted that. It looked like a good wicket to bat on first up", said Captain Kohli.
Kohli reflected the same during the post-match presentation. Given the depth of the squad, the skipper is optimistic that the team will put forward their best foot in the upcoming matches.
"You have to take it in your stride like you take your victories in your strides as well. We just need to be professional and stick to our strengths and make sure that we execute the plans that we have properly on the field. We have absolute confidence on this squad that we'll be able to pull up from the next game onwards and put in strong performances", Kohli further added.
The Royal Challengers face Chennai Super Kings in their next match fixture on 24th September at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The squad is looking forward to regrouping themselves in the next four days before their next fixtures. The Challengers have kept their spirits high to put forward an entertaining show on Friday.
