Watch – Mohammed Siraj plucks a mid-air stunner to send Jermaine Blackwood packing in the 1st Test
Mohammed Siraj has been a name that has been frequently talked about in recent times as he has led the Indian fast bowling attack in the absence of seniors with quite some success. In the recently concluded World Test Championship, he was also in fine touch, bagging four wickets in the first innings that yet again had pundits and fans talk about his skill in good light.
In the first Test against the West Indies at Dominica, Siraj beat the bat on many occasions and made the ball talk, but could only manage a solitary scalp as the Indian spinners ran through the hosts’ batting unit. However, it didn’t stop him from making a mark on the field, plucking an absolute stunner at mid-off that sent the experienced Jermaine Blackwood packing on his way back to the pavilion.
West Indies was very cautiously treading the choppy waters as Blackwood was unbeaten for 14, giving youngster Alick Athanaze company in the middle. Just as it seemed like the duo was adding some solidity to the batting effort, Blackwood’s eyes lit up on seeing a pitched-up delivery and the right-hander tried to give it a thwack down the ground but didn’t get everything behind it.
Mohammed Siraj charged to his right from mid-off and put in a flying dive, pouching the ball in mid-air with just his right hand, setting wild celebrations on the field. Although it seemed as if Siraj bruised his right elbow on taking the catch, it did very little to deter his spirits as he would later return to claim the prized scalp of Jason Holder for 16.
