Watch – Glenn Maxwell blends artistry and onslaught at the Wankhede in an act of uproarious defiance

It was a show like none other in the ongoing World Cup as an injured Glenn Maxwell hammered away at the Afghan bowlers as if the laws of physics were something to be toyed with. Gravity went for a toss, so did medical science as well as Maxwell, who at one point was flat on the ground with a full-body cramp, barely moving,  got back up, donned his helmet and gloves and after a brief moment of reprieve got into the act again.

Coming out to a rubble of 49/4, soon to be 91/7, Maxwell carved history at Wankhede, an innings of imperious dominance and belief that the world will never forget. A double-century riddled with the most brilliant, the craziest and more importantly unbelievable shots that had belief drilled until their very core.

The coup de grace administered by Maxi was a shot of tremendous power as he drilled it over the deep mid-wicket with utmost ferocity and the ball travelled to the second tier despite zero footwork from The Show.

The crescendo that brought the roof down at the Wankhede was barely the scintillating finishing touch. Maxwell was building up to that moment with an artistry that had shards of brilliance, grace and decimation all interlaced in the most perfect proportions.

The same over that saw Maxi pumping Mujeeb for the finishing touch had a couple of more boundaries in it where the first one was slogged over the deep mid-wicket while the second one was clubbed ramrod straight down the ground. Naveen ul Haq also witnessed first-hand power of the mad-striking titan as he smashed the quick over deep mid-wicket in imperious fashion.

No matter the number of words being put in place to describe the onslaught forged by Maxwell, they will never suffice.
