India’s dream run in the World Cup also had an impact on the latest ICC ODI Rankings as Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj rose to the top of the echelons in their respective disciplines in the 50-over format. Following their sensational display even though they came on isolated occasions, it was enough for them to garner enough points to leapfrog others in this marathon hunt for the crown.

Shubman Gill went past Babar Azam in the list and it was a long-time coming for the Prince after an array of impressive displays. Scores of 53 against Bangladesh witnessed a glimpse of the firepower that he brings to the platter which was followed by another glistening 92 that set the tone for Gill to edge past Babar who has also had four fifties in the tournament.

Mohammed Siraj, meanwhile, pipped Shaheen Shah Afridi to become the No.1 ODI bowler. Impressive displays featuring numbers of 3/16 against Sri Lanka, 1/45 against New Zealand, 2/60 against Bangladesh and 2/50 against Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup set him up nicely for the climb.

The new rankings has found some momentous movements amongst the points table to have a handful of Indian names adorning it and the World Cup continues to stay host to the Men in Blue’s imperious dominion. Kuldeep Yadav has also found his rhythm in the global fray as he surged into the top five of the table.

Two of India’s ace quicks, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami who are in sensational form have also made their way into the top ten, asserting the Indian dominion. Virat Kohli, who has blasted two centuries and four half-centuries also helped him climb three spots to 4th place.

Gill has been savouring a sensational year in ODI cricket with 1449 runs from 26 matches that has seen him strike four centuries, including a double-ton. His average reads 63 for the year while his overall career average in ODIs is that of a staggering 61.02.

The Indian bowling unit has also taken massive leaps in the rankings as Kuldeep moved up to the fourth spot while Bumrah bagged three positions to climb up to the eighth. Shami earned the most places though as he climbed up seven places to 10th spot in the bowlers’ rankings.
