It was an incredible day for the Indian batters as they went head on against Sri Lanka and motored along at perfect pace to pile up a momentous 373 on the board at Guwahati.

Rohit Sharma hammered a clinical 83 while Shubman Gill was in fine touch as well as he managed to romp over the visitors emphatically, bludgeoning a quickfire 70 to set a platform that allowed Virat Kohli to join the groove at his own pace.

Starting the game on a slow note, Kohli shortly upped the ante and started firing on all cylinders as Sri Lanka could only stand and watch. From prancing down the track to exquisite drives and flicks, Virat Kohli was at his majestic best, as he was hot on the heels of two important milestones that belonged to Sachin Tendulkar. At the end of his rambunctious 113, he equalled one of Tendulkar’s feats while surpassing the other.

Before the innings began, Sachin Tendulkar was the only Indian to have scored 20 ODI centuries at home. From 164 games, he managed to pile up those 20 blistering tons that would often leave his opposition reeling in agony. Virat was driving fiercely to this feat and his new year started on an emphatic note as he managed to parallel Sachin’s record of 20 ODI centuries at home.

Sachin Tendulkar was also the man with the highest number of centuries against Sri Lanka in ODIs with 8 tons and Virat Kohli surpassed the legend as he now holds the record of the highest number of centuries against Sri Lanka in the 50-overs format.
