Virat Kohli got off to a staggering start to the ODI series against Sri Lanka as the former Indian captain hammered his 73rdinternational century, in the process surpassing the glorious feat of Sachin Tendulkar in becoming the cricketer with the highest number of ODI centuries against Sri Lanka.

Kohli started on a slow note against the Lankans, thanks to a sturdy platform that he had at his disposal. As time whizzed by, he started coming out all guns blazing and eventually with a slightly extended hand of lady luck, he managed to smash a 87-ball-113 as India posted a staggering 373 on the board.

During the innings break, Kohli spoke in detail about his special knock that got his year off to a swashbuckling start. The RCB opener said, “I have had a bit of a break, couple of practice sessions. I have come fresh after the Bangladesh tour where things didn't quite go to plan for me in the second half. I was quite looking forward to the home season.”

He further added, “I had to bat through the innings as I always do but still manage a high strike-rate. I am glad I could play at the tempo of the game. We are glad that our intent has come off, and we have ended up with 370-plus instead of 340.”

Kohli also talked about the dropped chances, adding, “Luck is important, it plays a part. I am grateful for it, and bow my head and accept it. But more importantly, I am glad we have the extra 30 runs because there will be dew.”

He concluded by talking about the last time he and Rohit partnered well at Guwahati and it was against West Indies where India chased down 330-odd score without any fuss, stating, “The chase was possible because Rohit and I were in good flow, and we batted at a high strike-rate throughout the innings."
