Virat is not a player who would ask for leave without reason – Jay Shah

As India take to the yard for the third clash of the ongoing Test series against England, they will be missing Virat Kohli’s experience, with the star having requested absence for the entire series citing personal reasons.

Extending a hand of support, BCCI secretary Jay Shah opened up on how the entire board respects his decision. Talking on the occasion of renaming Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium as Niranjan Shah Stadium, Shah clarified that they are well aware of the fact that Virat won’t request for a leave unless it is extremely necessary.

He said, “If a player seeks personal leave in a career spanning 15 years it's not an issue. Virat is not a player who would ask for leave without reason. We should be backing our player."

Also shedding some light on managing player workloads, Shah added, “BCCI is the supreme body. Whatever the BCCI decides the franchises have to agree to. Player workload is always managed."
