Virat has been the pinnacle of the game, looking forward to working with him at RCB: Glenn Maxwell
Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, is absolutely chuffed to be plying his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Among the many other things, one thing he is most looking forward to is working with Virat Kohli, whom he considers as the 'pinnacle of the game' across all formats.
The swashbuckling Aussie has always been a hot property at the auction table. This year was no different. An intense bidding war saw Royal Challengers Bangalore snap up the services of the 32-year-old for a whopping INR 14.25 crore. Interestingly, he had expressed before the auction that he would love to share the dressing room with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. As fate would have it, he will be joining forces with the two stalwarts of the game.
"It [RCB stint] is going to be next level. He's (Virat) been the pinnacle of the game for a while as a multi-format player from Tests all the way to T20s. He's been able to adapt his game, dominate for a long period of time and deal with the Indian pressure of being their captain and their best player. I am looking forward to watching him go about his work, not just in games but in training, and hopefully tapping into some of the leadership stuff and try and learn off him," Maxwell was quoted as saying by AAP.
The Victorian added that he has developed a wonderful friendship with the skipper Virat Kohli over the years. He also recalled an instance where the talismanic Indian batsman backed his stance on the importance of mental health breaks, particularly in competitive sports.
"He's been a solid backer of my stance. In a way he probably understood a lot of the things that I was going through ... a lot of expectation and pressure, which I'm sure he can relate to," he added.
Come the IPL season, Glenn Maxwell will be seen wielding his long handle for Royal Challengers. We surely can't wait to see him don the Red and Gold jersey.
