Team India registered a fine win in the ODI series opener against South Africa as the pace bowling duo of Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh listed an A+ performance. Batting first, South Africa were skittled out for 116 with Arshdeep chronicling a fifer while Avesh Khan chimed in with a four-fer to make it a memorable one for the Indians.

B Sai Sudharsan proved to be a force to reckon with as he paired perfectly with Shreyas Iyer to send India cruising to another fine victory without breaking a sweat at the Wanderers. The Indian captain, KL Rahul, was delighted with the performance from his boys and opened up at length about this dominant victory.

Talking at the post-match conference, Rahul said, “I am happy. Good to have a win under the belt. Completely different to what we expected. The plan was to get the spinners in the game. The boys did really well. The boys did well to stay disciplined.”

Shedding further light on the surface and the surrounding conditions, Rahul said, “The ball kept moving around. There is a lot of cricket being played. You prioritize one format. For now, it is Tests and T20s. Everyone is performing and trying to do well for the country. Good chance for them to get a taste of international cricket.”

India and South Africa will face-off in the second ODI at Gqeberha tomorrow as South Africa will be eyeing revenge while the Men in Blue will certainly have history in their sights.
