In a few hours from now, the entire cricket roster will be buzzing with one magic word that is called ‘auction’ as we gear up for the IPL 2024 edition of mini-auction in Dubai. As we brace ourselves for the razzle and dazzle of the auctioning extravaganza, a lot of big names will be going under the hammer.

From pace sensations to explosive hard-hitters, this year’s auction will have 333 players from which 77 slots will be filled. Out of the 77 to come, 30 of them will be overseas names while the remainder will be everything about local talent. As we near the auction, here are top five overseas names to watch out for.

1.    Mitchell Starc

It goes without a saying that Mitchell Starc will be in high demand in the auction room. Known for his vicious swing and some ruthless pace, Starc can create all the difference in the world on the day he gets going. More importantly, he adds some crucial batting ability towards the tail end of the innings which makes him a top name in the auction. From the 121 T20s that he has been a part of he has claimed 170 wickets at an economy rate of 7.45.

2.    Daryl Mitchell

An explosive all-rounder who has a proven track record of dishing out imperative knocks under the pump, Daryl Mitchell can certainly be a name to watch out for. With 4003 runs under his belt in the shortest format of the game, Mitchell does bring in some serious firepower alongside that mercurial right-arm medium pace of him which has seen him landing 76 wickets to date.

3.    Pat Cummins

The Aussie all-rounder has been a spearhead for his national team for a while now. A chivalrous face adorned with a smile can also prove to be the last face you remember while you are at the receiving end as a batter. Infusing pace with some picture-perfect line and length, Cummins can be a game-changer. What makes him even more lethal is his hard-hitting that saw him registering the joint second fastest fifty in the antiquity of IPL. He has claimed 143 wickets from the 128 T20s that he has played at an economy rate of 7.98 while registering a BBI of 4/16.

4.    Travis Head

The Indian fans will certainly not forget this name for a while now as he was the chief architect for Australia’s glorious trophy seize at the global stage. Apart from his World Cup heroics, Head brings a lethal brand of power-hitting with him and his starts up front can be a perfect reason for the franchises to go splurging on him. He has scored 2494 runs at a strike rate of 134.15, numbers that also feature a century and 10 fifties.

5.    Rassie van der Dussen

Going strong at 34 years of age, Rassie van der Dussen can single-handedly be a game-changer. With 4680 runs in his repertoire that were scored at a breezy rate of 129.03, featuring three centuries and 30 half-centuries, Rassie will have his own set of suitors in the auction room in Dubai. A brilliant addition to the middle-order, van der Dussen is another big name to watch out for.
