South Africa to host India and West Indies in a triangular T20I series ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup
South Africa will be hosting the Indian and the Caribbean women in East London for a triangular T20I series in the months of January and February 2023 that will also serve as a preparatory chapter in the warpath to the T20 World Cup.
The three teams will be engaged with each other twice in the upcoming series in round-robin format before the top two teams play the grand finale on February 2nd, one week ahead of the Women’s Cricket World Cup. The 50-over extravaganza will be continuing till February 26th with the matches slated to be played in Cape Town, Gqeberha and Paarl.
Enoch Nkwe, CSA’s director of cricket said in a statement, “These two sides [India and West Indies] are up there with the most talented and entertaining nations in women's T20 cricket, having featured in two of the last four finals, with the West Indies lifting the trophy in 2016. This will give the Momentum Proteas a highly competitive build-up to the ultimate prize of the T20 World Cup."
South Africa have been clubbed in Group A alongside Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, while Group B consists of Pakistan, Ireland, England, India and West Indies.
Australia has won the tournament five times out of the seven occasions that it has been played while England and West Indies have managed to secure it once each. The hosts are yet to reach the title round while the Women in Blue played the final of the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2020.
