Tom Moody opens up on Team India's approach in the T20 World Cup

Things didn’t go as planned for the Men in Blue as they stuttered against England in the semi final of the T20 World Cup. Despite a fine display from Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli with the bat in their hands, the bowlers resigned in docile submission against the storming duo of Alex Hales and Jos Buttler.

Former Australian all-rounder, Tom Moody revealed his take on the Indian team’s defeat and also had a few suggestions for Rahul Dravid and company.

Talking on India’s opening pair, Moody said, “I think the top order needs to be more dynamic. So I'd be looking at players that fit that profile. So, identifying who are the players who play the sort of fearless game that we see, for example, Suryakumar Yadav. But he plays in the middle order. Who is the version of him that I can have at the top of the order?”

He further added, “Ideally, in my top three, I'd want two of them and then I have my anchor player that plays around circumstances, conditions, lot of early wickets, whatever it is, just to set the ship back on the right course if things go wrong.”

Moody made a very interesting remark about the possible top three and why it should be more about the brand of cricket that they want to follow instead of the names. Moody said, “So who are those dynamic players? Rishabh Pant is one of them. Ishan Kishan is another one that I see who is an extraordinary talent. At the end of the day, it's not the people you are picking but the brand of cricket you want to play. The people then follow the brand.”

He concluded by talking about the intent that the Indian batters should have batted with, drawing a contrast with SKY’s knocks, stating, “Yeah and he does it as a freelancer. He does it because that's who he is. That is his own authenticity as a cricketer. And it's breaking away the shackles of the others and saying this is what I want you to do, we've got your back.”
