There has been a lot of talk going on around the Indian batting order, especially after a defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the ODI series opener. The Men in Blue couldn’t get off the blocks and struggled against the disciplined hosts. Thanks to KL Rahul, India managed to put up a decent show and get some important runs on the board.

If there has been one position in the Indian batting line-up that has been discussed over and over again, it is the opening slot in the ODIs. With almost four potential options in the hut, it isn’t easy for the Men in Blue to make a call.

Currently, India’s opening slot is occupied by Rohit and Dhawan in the ongoing Bangladesh series with Rahul also being a potential option for the same. Now there is a rising sensation taking flight with a phenomenal run in the ongoing calendar year, Shubman Gill.

Former Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh had a few massive words of praise reserved for the young Indian opener as the contest for the opening spot intensifies ahead of the upcoming World Cup in 2023. Talking to News Agency PTI, Yuvraj said, “I think Shubman is doing very well and is performing consistently. I believe he is a strong contender to open for India in the 2023 World Cup.”

The former hard-hitting southpaw further added, “Shubman is very hardworking and is doing all the right things. I believe he is destined for greatness in the next 10 years.”
