India’s iconic left-handed opener, Shikhar Dhawan has decided to call it a day in international and domestic cricket. Announcing his farewell through a social media post on Saturday, Dhawan left the Indian audience stunned. He was last seen in the international circuit against Bangladesh where he featured in an ODI against Bangladesh at Chattogram.

“It's important to turn the page to move forward in life and that's why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. I am leaving with peace in my heart that I played so long for India. I've told myself don't feel sad that you won't play for India anymore, but feel happy that you played for the country”, Dhawan posted on his social media handles.

Shikhar Dhawan steps down as a ODI great, among the top 8 run-scorers with 5000 runs at a 40-plus average and a strike rate north of 90. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the other Indians in this star-studded list.

Although Dhawan’s ODI numbers are what made him popular, his 85-ball-100 against Australia in Mohali was the fastest ever century scored by a Test debutant. In fact, he went on to score a match-winning 187 in the same match. At the end of a glistening career, Dhawan scored 6793 runs from 167 ODIs at an average of 44.11 while garnering 2315 runs at an average of 40.61. He was a part of 68 T20Is from which he amassed 1759 runs at a strike rate of 126.36.

Congratulations Shikhar on what will always be a memorable career. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours.
