Rohit Sharma to captain India in T20 World Cup 2024
Amidst all the speculations about who could lead India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed through an interview that Rohit Sharma will captain the side with Hardik Pandya named as his deputy.
Speaking on the occasion of rechristening the Saurashtra Cricket Association as the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, Shah confirmed the update.
He said, “We may have lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. But we won hearts there by winning 10 matches in a row. I would like to say that I am confident that India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at Barbados.”
He further stated, “Hardik will continue to be the vice-captain at the T20 World Cup. Hardik got injured at the ODI World Cup, so who else would we hand over the captaincy to? The manner in which Rohit batted against Afghanistan, I don't think we should question the decision. Rahul Dravid will be the coach of the team at the World Cup.”
The T20 World Cup 2024 will be hosted jointly by the USA and West Indies, with the tournament set to commence on June 1st.
