Another captivating evening descended upon Vadodara for the RCB fans as the defending champions made it two in two in the ongoing WPL. An all-round performance from the Royal Challengers left the Delhi Capitals in a twist and despite an early fightback, their resistance was blown to bits as RCB pocketed a massive 8-wicket win.

Winning the toss for the second time on the bounce, RCB opted to bowl. Renuka Singh provided RCB with an early breakthrough, removing the menacing Shafali Verma for a golden duck. Meg Lanning (17) and Jemimah Rodrigues (34) came together to fend off the early infringements from the Royal Challengers.

Posting a 59-run partnership for the second wicket, Jemi dictated proceedings for the Capitals. However, it was the introduction of Georgia Wareham that changed the momentum of the game. Wareham removed Rodrigues at one end while Kim Garth got the better of her Aussie teammate, Meg Lanning, in quick succession.

The fall of Lanning and Jemimah opened up the floodgates for RCB and they stormed through in no time. It was Sarah Bryce who chimed in with a crucial knock of resistance for the Capitals with a 19-ball-23 but that wasn’t enough for Delhi. A combined show of supremacy from Georgia Wareham and Renuka Singh claiming six wickets between them was the key driving force behind RCB’s bowling dominion. They had help from Ekta Bisht and Kim Garth, sharing four wickets between them, which helped skittle out Delhi for 141.

RCB came out all guns blazing through Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge. Mandhana was in a different touch altogether and Danni played the perfect two-to-tango. It was a perfect blend of the calm and the storm as RCB kept on cruising in a flash.

Mandhana notched up her third half-century of the WPL while also crossing the milestone of scoring 500 runs in the antiquity of the tournament. She smashed an unbeaten 81 off just 47 balls, clobbering 10 fours and three sixes while Danni hit 42 from just 33 balls. The duo added 107 runs for the first wicket, chomping away at the majority of the runs required.

It was eventually Richa Ghosh who finished it off in her signature fashion, staying unbeaten on 11 off just five balls. RCB registered a staggering 8-wicket victory to retain the spot at the top of the points table. Renuka Singh won the Player of the Match award for her rippling figures of 3/23.
