RCB Bold Diaries: RCB introduces Players' recognition award
After every game, when all the lights, cameras and cricketing action have turned off, and the players return to the dressing room, RCB have introduced a new award to be given to one player. But, what are these awards for, and what is its significance?
“We talked about a new award. It has to be for something very special. So we know that at the end of every game, the man of the match, they are taken care of anyway. They're gonna win the obvious awards. But this is an award we wanted to do; basically a players' player award,” explained RCB’s Director of Cricket Operations, Mike Hesson.
But, why is it important for players to receive an award from their peers? Mike Hesson explained, “You can talk to any player in the world, and often when they get given something like this, the respect they get from their peers is really important. So for us, it is important to put a contribution award for every game, and not just make a voucher or something, but have something that's valuable.”
“Hopefully, it's something that you're gonna respect and really care about. And the other part of it is the person who wins the award gives the next award,” he concluded.
