RCB Bold diaries: Glenn Maxwell opens up on RCB captain Faf du Plessis
It’s almost time for the Big show. Glenn Maxwell, having joined up with the RCB squad in Mumbai for IPL 2022 a few days ago will now be available for selection from the next game against the Mumbai Indians on the 9th of April. Ahead of kickstarting his season, the Aussie all-rounder sat down for a chat.
Glenn Maxwell in his very first year fit into the RCB setup, and was one of the three players retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Did he interact with Faf du Plessis ahead of the tournament after he was announced as the captain of RCB? “I had a few messages before the tournament. I was probably more focused on my wedding before that. Knowing that he was going to be the captain, I was in touch with the coaches right throughout the auction, and that process as well. Still wanted to be heavily involved in molding our team going forward, and I think that was a big part of the three guys that were retained. We had to have those guys involved to make sure we had the right balance going forward with that squad, and we’re really happy with the squad we’ve accumulated and we’re really happy with Faf at the helm,” Maxwell revealed.
What about Faf the captain? “We think he’s going to do a great job for the franchise. Even the way he has started, you can tell he’s got the respect of everyone in the room. Not only does he lead by example by his actions, but he also performs really well. To have a guy of his quality and caliber at the top of the order to lead us, it’s great for the franchise, and hopefully, the senior guys can help him out as well. So, it’s not just him shouldering all that workload that we’ve potentially have seen in previous years at RCB, I suppose to have a solid leadership group behind him to make him feel like it’s not just him shouldering all the load, and hopefully, we can help him out at different stages. But, we’re very fortunate with the squad that we’ve got and we believe it’s a winning squad,” Maxwell added.
