Pretty happy to get over the line – Sophie Molineux
It was a dream finish to what was a glorious ride already for the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women as they surged past Delhi Capitals in the grand finale to clinch the crown in WPL 2024.
It wasn’t the most glorious of starts, however, as DC was off to an absolute flyer, thanks to the partnership of Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning. However, Sophie Molineux proved to be the game-changer with her dramatic second over that produced three big wickets.
Trapping Shafali with the tempting urge to go big against her while flighting one outside the off-stump, Soph announced her brilliance. She followed it up with a couple of quicker ones that bamboozled Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey to yank the momentum back in their favour.
She won the Player of the Match for that impactful spell and a run-out later which stamped RCB-W’s authority in the boldest of liveries. Talking at the post-match presentation, Molineux talked at length about the mindset prevailing in the dugout while what exactly was the plan before she could string Delhi Capitals up.
Molineux said, “Was a great match. Finals are always funny games. Delhi Capitals were a great team throughout the season. Pretty happy to get over the line. Felt I was bowling slow tonight.”
She concluded by stating, “Had been bowling quick throughout the tournament - took the learnings from it. To be taken on by RCB after not playing cricket for a while was pretty special. To be a part of it was really cool.”
