Preethi Pal registered history in the Paris Paralympics by becoming the first Indian woman in the track and field category to clinch two medals in the antiquity of Paralympics. Preethi who is just 23 years old, bagged her second bronze, this time in the 200m T35 category.

Preethi became the second Indian woman after Avani Lekhara to win two medals in the same iteration of the Games as the latter clinched gold and bronze in Tokyo three years ago. It was a close tussle in what seemed to be a star-studded event in the 200m T35 category. China’s Zhou Xia won gold with a time of 28.15 seconds.

Guo Qianqian from China landed the silver with a time of 29.09 seconds. Pal registered her personal best timing of 30.01 seconds to win her second bronze of the Para games. Such is the magnitude of Preethi’s achievements that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi also congratulated her, stating that she is truly an inspiration for the people of India.
