RCB’s batting coach and mentor, Dinesh Karthik, believes that Indian youngsters, namely Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan, have the potential to take over the mantle from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane later this year in Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Even though the team is still to be announced, it is unclear whether Rahane and Pujara will make it to the Indian squad Down Under. Both the seasoned campaigners have endured a decline in their numbers which makes them slightly questionable for the upcoming series.

Talking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said, “Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan. Both of those batters have done well against England in the home series that recently happened at the start of the year. I have a feeling both of them will be on that flight to Australia and will be trying to do their best. We will know if they’re able to replace both Ajinkya and Pujji (Pujara). Big shoes to fill, but they have the quality and calibre in them.”

India will be playing a five-match Test series against Australia at the end of the year Down Under. The last time India was in Australia, they carved the historic Border Gavaskar Trophy triumph which made it the second time in a row. To add further sheen to this triumph, India pulled off the unthinkable, breaching Gabba.
