Mohammed Shami has been officially confirmed as the replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. Shami has already reached Australia and will be linking up with the Indian squad in Brisbane ahead of the imminent warm-up matches as announced by BCCI in a media release on Friday.

Alongside Shami being confirmed as a part of the main squad, Mohammed Siraj who pulled off a phenomenal job against South Africa and Shardul Thakur who was decent in patches were announced as back-ups in the squad.

The main Indian squad left for Australia on 6th October and since then has been stationed in Perth where they were also a part of a couple of warm-up games, winning the first while losing the second at the WACA Ground against Western Australia.

Mohammed Shami hasn’t been a part of any T20Is since the last World Cup where he didn’t savour a decent outing, but with the kind of skill set and experience that the Bengal fast bowler brings to the mix, it is hard to keep him at bay.

Squad: Rohit Sharma (capt), KL Rahul (vice-capt), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami
