Mohammed Shami all set to return to cricket after a year of hiatus – Reports
India fast bowler Mohammed Shami is all set to return to cricket after more than a year of hiatus. With speculations of him being in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy meeting a dead end when the squad was announced without his name in it, there are new hopes of him making it back to the Indian side if he can prove to be the difference-maker in the solitary Ranji Trophy match that he is going to be a part of for Bengal.
Shami was sidelined with an ankle injury since India’s World Cup campaign in 2023. It was a well-known fact that he took injections just to be fit enough to play in the quadrennial extravaganza as he emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Team India in the 2023 World Cup with 24 wickets at an average of 10.70.
As reported by ESPNCricinfo, if things go right and Shami proves his fitness in the four-day Ranji match where Bengal will be playing Madhya Pradesh, Shami might be joining the Indian ranks Down Under that currently feature the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Jasprit Bumrah.
The report further stated that Shami was all set to return in the Duleep Trophy but a swelling on his left foot had stalled his return to the sport. With a series defeat against New Zealand denting India badly, they will need all hands on deck when they take on Australia Down Under for a five-match Test series to remain in the hunt for making the cut for the WTC final.
