I won't worry so much about Shubman – Rahul Dravid silences critical views on Shubman Gill’s recent form

India endured an unexpected failure against West Indies in the second game of the ODI series as they could barely get any momentum rolling their way despite a fine start. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan seemed in good touch until the former fell for 34 from just 49 balls. Of late, Gill has been going through a lean patch, attracting quite some criticism from fans and pundits alike.

With all said and done, the Indian coach, Rahul Dravid expressed his faith in Gill and was crystal clear about his take on the Indian opener.

Talking to the reporters, Dravid sided with Gill and said, “I won't worry so much about Shubman. He is batting really well, he looks really good. It can happen, you can't criticise people after every single game. These things can happen, it's not easy batting conditions. We needed to grind and fight it out there. Shubman is an important part of all the three formats now.”

The Indian coach also had heavy words of praise for Kishan, adding, "Ishan has done really well. This is the third fifty in a row now counting the Test matches. He is taking the opportunities when he is given the chance. That's all we ask from young players.”

The Indian coach also assured that despite Gill’s dwindling numbers, he would continue to be a part of the Indian cricket team in all formats of the game. As India prepare to take on the Islanders in the third ODI with the series on the line, the onus will be on Gill to fire.
