I was bowling to take wickets – Suyash Sharma on his aggressive approach against MI
Suyash Sharma returned to the RCB side and he did so with a bang, claiming two crucial scalps in the very first over of his bowling against Mumbai Indians. A double whammy that set MI back by significant miles led to Sharma once again meting out justice to his reputation.
Sharma’s haul of Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma left a significant gap in the run-chase for Mumbai and by the time they could garner their bearings around them to get back into the attacking mode, RCB managed to create a substantial gap between the scoring and the asking rate.
Talking at the post-match presentation, Sharma bared out his blueprint. He opened up on the fact that he knew in a high-scoring game, chances of getting hit are obvious but the key word doing rounds in his mind was that of wickets.
Explaining his plan, Sharma said, “I was just thinking that I need to take wickets. Because in a long chase, you’re going to get hit anyway. But my belief was that on this wicket, the ball will turn. So my plan was to hit the stumps as much as possible, that’s where I would benefit. I was bowling to take wickets, not just to bowl dot balls.”
Shedding light on his aggressive bowling, Suyash added, “Sometimes it also depends on the situation. If we had fewer runs on the board, maybe I wouldn’t have gone all-out for wickets, I would’ve focused on conceding fewer runs. But this time we had a lot of runs, so I thought I should go for wickets aggressively.”
He concluded by talking about his two wickets in the very first over, adding, “My plan was simple, to bowl in their blockhole area. Both of them play well outside, so I just wanted to target the stumps. Then we will see what happens.”
