It’s about being a match-winner – Phil Salt on his mindset after his defining knock against MI
Phil Salt unleashed his signature assault on Mumbai Indians, opening up the grand show that would consume Wankhede later that night. His blistering knock of 78 from just 36 balls set the tone perfectly for the RCB innings. Salt won the Player of the Match award for his incredible performance with the bat, finally returning to the assault mode he is so well-known for.
Speaking in the post-match presentation, Salt opened up about the game's ups and downs. He also underscored his batting philosophy while also pinpointing how the ground conditions have been propitious for the batters throughout the tournament.
Shedding light about the wax and wanes, Salt said, “Honestly, (Simon) Doully, I've got no idea myself. There's a few highs and a lot of lows, and you can't ride both of them. Just stay as even as you can, and I'm just pleased I could come out and put a performance in for the lads.”
Underpinning his batting philosophy, Salt added, “Some of these grounds aren't the most bowler-friendly, so you've got to keep the mentality that you're going to keep going at the opposition. And then not forget your assets as a player. It's about being a match-winner, isn't it? I know I can't get runs every game, nobody can. But if I can be as impactful as possible, then I'm on the right path.”
He concluded with a word about how MI could squeeze RCB out of a few runs in the latter half of the innings, stating, “And to be honest, we probably had a few more in the tank. I think, in the second ten of our innings, they actually shut us down quite nicely at times. So, promising signs for us as a batting unit. I think they bowled well then."
