Glenn Maxwell suffers ‘freak accident’; sidelined for extended period after surgery on his leg
Glenn Maxwell will be out for an extended period of time as he suffered a freak accident at a birthday party in Melbourne on Saturday. Maxwell fractured his fibula and underwent the knife on Saturday.
As reported by ESPNCricinfo, the entire incident unfolded as he slipped while running in a backyard with the person celebrating the birthday. Much to the woes of the RCB all-rounder, his leg got trapped and that resulted in a snap.
In the immediate offing, Maxwell has been ruled out of the ODI series against England which is all set to go forward from Thursday, as revealed by Cricket Australia on their website. However, the bigger blow for Maxwell can very well be that of missing out the BBL where the Melbourne Stars pin a majority of their hopes on the hard-hitting all-rounder.
National selector George Bailey said, “Glenn is in good spirits. It was an unfortunate accident and we feel for Glenn in the circumstances given he was in great touch in his last few games. Glenn is a critical part of our white-ball structure and we will continue to support him through his recovery and rehabilitation."
Melbourne Stars manager, Blair Crouch added, “Glenn is obviously a huge part of the Melbourne Stars and we wish him well in his recovery. He will continue to be a key part of the club during the start of the season as he works his way back to full fitness and we look forward to seeing him soon."
