In what could turn out to be a major blow for hosts Australia, opener David Warner has been ruled out of the last ODI and the three-match T20I series. Cricket Australia said that Warner, who suffered a groin injury, has been rested so that he can recover in time for the Test series which starts on December 17.

Warner suffered the injury in the 2nd ODI as he dived at mid-off to stop a shot from Shikhar Dhawan. The opener looked in excruciating pain and was helped by his teammates and fitness staff to the dressing room.

The left-hander has been in great touch in the series so far, scoring 152 runs with a strike rate of just under 100. Meanwhile, D’arcy Short has been added to the T20I squad as a replacement.

Australia have also decided to rest Pat Cummins from the limited-overs series. The move is aimed at giving the pacer ample rest ahead of the Test series.

Australia have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series; the last match will be played on Wednesday at Manuka Oval, Canberra.
