Blitzkrieg from Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli helps India equal South Africa’s illustrious ODI record

In a dead rubber where the fate of the series was already sealed, Ishan Kishan came alive and unleashed carnage upon the Bangladeshi bowlers in the most merciless fashion as he took them out by bits and pieces and bludgeoned them to the ropes. He was also accompanied by Virat Kohli in the most perfect proportions as India piled up a staggering 409 on the board in the series finale.

Kohli and Ishan Kishan piled up a 290-runs stand for the second wicket as India peppered their neighbours to the ropes frequently and showcased the kind of batting brilliance that they have up their sleeves.

In the 290-run stand, Kishan smashed 199 of them while Kohli did the remainder of honours before going all guns blazing towards the tail-end of the innings. This is the sixth time that India has managed to cross the hallowed mark of 400 runs, equalling South Africa’s feat of registering the highest number of 400-plus scores in an ODI. India was almost on the cusp of surpassing their own record of the highest runs scored by the Men in Blue in  an ODI but a flurry of wickets towards the end prevented them from going past 418.

It was a Virender Sehwag masterclass against the Windies when his double-century took apart the Islanders and propelled India to a thunderous 418 in 2011 which still remains the Men in Blue’s highest total in the longer format of white ball cricket.
