After a long wait of 1214 days, Virat Kohli eventually managed to claim his 44th ODI ton which came against Bangladesh as India rode imperiously high on the heroics of Ishan Kishan and the former RCB and Indian captain to pile up a momentous 409 on the board.

It took him 25 ODI innings to score that all-important 44th ODI ton, enhancing his overall century tally to 72 as he left behind Australian legend, Ricky Ponting in terms of international centuries scored. Kohli stayed calm and composed during his partnership with Ishan Kishan and then chose to bring out the big guns as Bangladesh had a hard time trying to control the run machine.

Virat finished his illustrious knock at a staggering 113 from just 91 balls where he hammered 11 boundaries and 2 maximums. He came out to bat when Shikhar Dhawan fell early, allowing Bangladesh to give a glimpse of the déjà vu that India has suffered for the past couple of ODIs.

Playing that all-important anchor in the initial spell of the contest, Kohli allowed Ishan Kishan to open his arms and remained a transfixed onlooker at the other end while the latter made merry. It was when the southpaw got out that Kohli opted to go big and made up for the lost time. As Kohli smashed his 44th ODI century, he inched closer to Sachin Tendulkar, as he now stands 5 tons away from being the player with the highest number of ODI tons in the history of the sport.

The century also saw Kohli becoming the second player to complete 1000 international runs in Bangladesh, joining the likes of Shane Watson. He also became the third player to score 1000 runs in three countries away from home with Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting being the other two.
