It's not an individual game: Yuzvendra Chahal optimistic about his chances in the 2023 World Cup
Despite finishing the group campaign on a high, Team India crashed out of the T20 World Cup after a defeat at the hands of England in the semi-final. The Indian management had to face a few questions on the team combination and personnel selections.
One of the faces that couldn’t manage a start for himself was Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner was in the Indian squad but couldn’t force his way into the eleven. India went ahead with Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, taking into consideration the all-rounders' importance in the playing XI.
The former RCB leggie opened up on him not getting an opportunity to play in the showpiece event. Speaking to India Today, Chahal highlighted his exact feelings on not being able to get a single game for himself.
Yuzi said, “It's not an individual game. Every team has its own set of combinations. And then I saw Ashwin and Axar performing well...those things happen in life. I just knew that if get an opportunity I have to be ready and coach and Rohit bhai had clarified that to me.”
Despite not getting an opportunity in the playing XI of the 2022 T20 World Cup, the RR leggie was pretty optimistic about his chances for the upcoming 2023 World Cup as he said, “The 50-over World Cup is going to happen next. The last World Cup which I played, in 2019, was also a 50-over World Cup. I don't tend to think about all this stuff that much. For me, what matters is playing for India, that is my first goal. Now whether I am picked in the XI or not, is not in my hand. I hope I can continue playing in the same manner, get to play for my country and hope India becomes the champions in 2023.”
