Arshdeep Singh rocks New York with a belter of display as India makes Super Eight
It was another scintillating display from the Indian bowlers that set the tone perfectly for a low-scoring and yet high-octane clash as the Men in Blue punched their tickets to the Super Eights.
As India won the toss and decided to bowl first, Arshdeep Singh was the star of the show with a phenomenal showdown up front that saw him claiming a couple of mammoth scalps in his very first over.
The first ball of the innings saw Arshdeep ramming through the guards of Shayan Jahangir as the ball kissed the kneeroll of the latter’s pads. Launched in the line of the off-stump, the ball hurtled back in towards the middle and the USA opener could only stand rooted to his position.
The final ball of the first over saw Arshdeep claiming the experienced Andries Gous with a back of a length delivery. Dragging the length back, Arshdeep was eyeing for the ribs of the batter. Gous, thrown off-balance went forward with a very cumbersome pull shot which got high up and Hardik Pandya pulled off a pretty fine take.
While he was off, India did manage to assert their dominion but the sting came off for a while and that is when Nitish Kumar motored along in pretty fine fashion, spearheading the charge for the hosts. Rohit decided to bring in his key bowler once again and Arshdeep didn’t disappoint.
However, a special credit for sure should go to Mohammed Siraj who pulled off an absolute blinder at deep mid wicket, backtracking in the first place and then following it up with a brilliantly controlled roll that would have given any gymnasts a run for their money.
Nitish Kumar, trying to go for that big heave, ended up playing one into the hands of Siraj at long-off and India got their wheels back in motion. Arshdeep wasn’t done for the day yet as he had another trick up his sleeve and he was not shy to use that.
Arshdeep continued with his shorter deliveries and this time it was a banger that got Harmeet Singh as he swished one straight into the hands of Rishabh Pant with India establishing their authority over the hosts.
