Arshdeep Singh reveals what Suryakumar Yadav told him before the final over of the 5th T20I
It was a dramatic turnaround of affairs in the series finale at Namma Bengaluru as Arshdeep Singh bowled one of the finest final overs in the entire T20I series as the Men in Blue roared back to life to seize an absolute thriller.
Defending nine runs in the final over, Arshdeep started the over with a controversial bouncer following which he belted out a picture-perfect yorker that left Matthew Wade befuddled. The Aussie skipper’s desperation to try and find the ropes against Arshdeep backfired as he was caught at long-on in the third ball of the over.
Nathan Ellis and Jason Behrendorff did try and swing their bat as hard as they could but Arshdeep’s calm prevailed as Team India seized an absolute humdinger, making it 4-1 in their favour.
Talking in an interview post the game on the sidelines, Arshdeep said, “I was thinking that I gave away too many runs (in the first three overs) and was hoping for another chance, and thanks to God, I defended it and also thanks to the staff that they believed in me.”
He also revealed what his captain told him, adding, “Surya told me whatever happens, happens, and credit goes to the batters as well. We had a cushion of 15-20 runs and it was definitely more than par.”
He concluded by talking about his performances in the series, stating, “According to the standards we have set as an Indian team, it was not near par but there are a lot of learnings to take and hoping to come back stronger.”
