You have to play a more attacking brand – Phil Salt explains his hard-hitting mentality
Phil Salt rocked the bowlers emphatically in IPL 2025, hammering away at a strike rate of 175.98. Salt’s mind-blowing starts allowed RCB to set the tone right for the remainder of the innings and they made good use of it. Talking on the latest episode of Big Basket presents RCB Podcast: Bold & Beyond, Phil Salt explained the mindset that drove him through the tournament in conjuring that solid display of fireworks.
Highlighting his mindset, Salt said, “That's the thing about cricket especially now. You have to play a more attacking brand. Does that mean it's going to be the most consistent brand in the world? No. I feel like there's a lot of batters in this league, myself included, who could have the mentality of ‘I'm going to go put myself somewhere near the orange cap. I'm going to strike at 130 and then if I get past 40, 50, 60, then I'm going to up the scoring rate.’”
He further added, “That’s not a way you can afford to think anymore in the IPL, and that suits me fine. As a batting group, I don't think there's many of us that want to have the orange cap. I don't think there's many of us that are in this for ourselves. I think it's about how the team does and everything we talk about is centered on us winning and how we do that. And that's I think that's the most important thing in the IPL."
