Yash Dhull to lead Indian Team at U-19 World Cup
Young batter, Yash Dhull will be leading the 17-member Indian squad in the upcoming edition of the U19 World Cup that is slated to be played in the Caribbean Islands from January 14th to February 5th 2022.
Yash will be deputized by Sk Rasheed who impressed heavily in the recently concluded youth tournament. India has been placed in group B alongside Ireland, South Africa and Uganda. They will be starting their campaign against South Africa in Guyana on January 15th, followed by clashes against Ireland on January 19th and Uganda on January 22nd.
Reigning champions, Bangladesh have been placed in Group A alongside Canada, England and UAE. Group C has Afghanistan, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe. The four teams of Group D are Australia, Scotland, Sri Lanka and hosts West Indies.
New Zealand refused to participate in the competition as they withdrew owing to the extensive quarantine measures that are in place following the Omicron scare all over the world.
Scotland who missed the qualification spot in the European qualifiers were selected to fill in.
India lead the charts by a mile with a staggering 4 World Cups followed closely by Australia who have three World Cups titles to their name.
India’s last triumph in the tournament came in 2018 under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw while their latest campaign saw them falling short of the finishing line by whiskers as Bangladesh walked away with the bragging rights in the grand finale.
The other three exultant outings for India came under Mohammed Kaif in 2000, Virat Kohli in 2008 and in 2012 under Unmukt Chand.
