Which are Virat Kohli's favourite World Cup Matches

Virat Kohli has been a part of some of the most memorable matches that Team India has played in the last decade. In many of those, he had a vital role to play, earlier as a young aggressive batsman and in the recent past as the captain with a world-class batting prowess. In fact, in less than three years into his international career, Kohli had a World Cup-winning medal. But what are his favourite world cup matches?

“Apart from the 2011 finals, my other favourite match from the atmosphere and importance of the game point of view, would be the 2016 T20 quarterfinals against Australia in Mohali,” Kohli said on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected.

Chasing 161 to secure a place in the semis against Windies, India were 3 down for 49 in the 8th over. In a pressure game, Virat Kohli stood up to the occasion and took India home by 6 wickets. Kohli’s Man of the Match performance winning 51-ball 82 is still considered one of the best T20I innings played by an Indian cricketer in a chase.

Virat Kohli has often talked about the importance of the atmosphere during a cricket match. It’s one of the reasons he finds IPL a special tournament. However, Kohli is a little concerned about how the future of cricket is going to look like in the post COVID-19 world.

Talking about how it will be to play in empty stadiums, he said, “Things will still go on, but I doubt that one will feel that magic happening inside because of the atmosphere that was created. We will play sports how it is supposed to be played, but those magical moments will be difficult to come by.”

But the Indian skipper clarified that there will be no dearth of competitiveness in the matches even if it is played without a crowd.

“I know matches will be played at a very good intensity. But that feeling of the crowd connecting with the players and the tension of the game where everyone goes through it in the stadium, those emotions are difficult to recreate,” he added.
