ECB's plan for resumption of cricket

The world of sports has refused to bog down to COVID-19 pandemic and continues to explore avenues to return to action. After a 7-week sporting shut down UFC returned to action, albeit behind closed doors. However, the development is a shot in arm for other sports. 

In what could paint a positive picture for cricket fans across, the England and Wales Cricket Board has said that it is working closely with the government to ensure a safe resumption of cricket even as the world battles the pandemic.

England Prime Minister recently stated that the country might be under lockdown till Jun. All professional cricketing action is suspended till July 1 in England.

“We are working closely with the government to establish when and how it will be safe to resume play, and we look forward to sharing our plans as they progress,” said ECB in a statement.

“ECB is aware of the government's announcement pertaining to the next steps of this crisis and we will continue to be led by their advice,” it added.

England were scheduled to host Windies for a three-test series in June but the lockdown has forced its suspension. Even Pakistan’s visit to England has been postponed until July 1 at the earliest. ECB’s flagship ‘The Hundred’ has also been delayed until next year.

“While our recommendation to suspend all forms of recreational cricket remains in place at present, everyone across the sport is hoping that we will see cricket played across England and Wales this summer," the statement said.

According to an estimate ECB stands to lose over 300 million pounds if the upcoming season does not happen due to COVID-19 pandemic.
