What will happen if the India vs Pakistan reserve day’s play gets washed out?

As rain played spoilsport at Colombo with the Indian batters looking good against Pakistan’s bowling attack, play was shifted to the reserve day with a lot of focus on one question - what happens if the reserve day’s play is washed out as well?

If the reserve day’s play is abandoned due to rain, that would mean both India and Pakistan will share a point each in the Super Four stage that would allow the latter a stronghold at the top of the points table while India will have to get the better of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the upcoming games to book a berth in the final.

The current Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours points table has Pakistan settled at the top with two points at a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 1.051 while Sri Lanka are in second place with a victory over Bangladesh and a NRR of 0.420. For India, the path to the final will certainly be tricky if the games do end up getting washed out.

As things stand at the end of day’s play on Sunday, India are stationed at 147/2 from 24.1 overs, a score that came on the back of a brilliant start from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as both of them smashed fifties.
