RCB-W’s team stars sweep away top honours from WCPL 2023
A befitting end befell Sophie Devine and Shreyanka Patil in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League, but it was a moment to rejoice for Erin Burns, who finished as part of the Barbados Royals team which emerged champions of the WCPL 2023 with an 8-run win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
For the Warriors, Patil not just bagged the all-important scalp of her RCB teammate, Erin Burns, who holed out to Sophie Devine but she also delivered a maiden over, a rarity in the T20 format. Apart from Patil, Shabnim Ismail picked four wickets for the Warriors.
With the bat, RCB’s star opener Sophie Devine rocked the show initially for the Warriors as she scored 22, smashing three fours and a six before eventually losing her wicket.
At the end of the tournament, there was a flurry of awards as the Royal Challengers women topped the charts. Patil finished as the top wicket-taker that saw her claiming nine wickets from the five innings that she bowled in, while Devine finished as the top-scorer of the tournament with 253 runs at a strike rate of 139.01 and a jaw-dropping average of 84.33.
Although Burns didn’t get an individual honour, she too had a chance to bask in glory as a member of the Royals’ XI that emerged as champions of WCPL 2023.
