During a live session with Vikrant Gupta, Sourav Ganguly confirmed the cancellation of the Asia Cup, which was also originally scheduled to be held in September.

While some of the cricketing countries have already begun the preparatory camps for players, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to schedule outdoor training sessions for the Indian players.

Ganguly, who turned 48 on Wednesday, mentioned that the safety and wellbeing of the players remain to be of utmost importance during these circumstances. He asserted that preparations are in place, but the board is not in a hurry, considering the proliferation of COVID-19 cases across the country.

"It's difficult to say which will be India's first international series. We've done our preparations but we can't do much till we know the government rules. We are not in a hurry because the health of players is of the utmost importance. We are monitoring things monthly, " Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying.

In its recent meeting, the International Cricket Council [ICC] stalled the decision on the fate of the T20 World Cup until mid-July. However, Cricket Australia chairman, Earl Eddings, has admitted that Australia's prospects of hosting the T20 World Cup look grim.

The 7th edition of the T20 World Cup is originally scheduled to begin from October 18 to November 15. With both Asia Cup and T20 World Cup set to be cancelled, it opens up a massive window for the BCCI to host the lucrative tournament.

"If the T20 WC gets cancelled, then we will try everything to stage the IPL. It is very important for Indian cricket. We will try to host it in India. The cancellation of T20 WC will happen soon because all countries are asking for a direction from ICC. We'll know by mid-July. My gut feeling is saying it's tough. We don't have a window for IPL yet because we have to play in Australia in December. That's FTP and we can't change that. Australia is one country where, apart from Melbourne, things are returning to normal," Ganguly added.
