We need him there – Ravichandran Ashwin backs Bhuvneshwar Kumar's selection in India's World Cup 2027 squad
Bhuvneshwar Kumar set IPL 2026 on fire after dropping one of his most phenomenal performances in the history of the tournament. Kumar registered his best-ever IPL numbers with 28 wickets at an economy rate of 7.95 in a season where batters came out firing on all cylinders.
Former Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, backed Bhuvneshwar Kumar vehemently to be added to the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC 2027 ODI World Cup. In a chat with Cricinfo, where he participated in a ‘yes, no or maybe’ segment, Ashwin made it clear that Bhuvi's presence in the squad would be an important one.
Ashwin said, “Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a yes. I would communicate to him. Get him to play all the tournaments, first-class, Vijay Hazare, everything, and get him prime going to South Africa. I think we will need him there."
Apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashwin’s "yes" bracket included Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Ashwin also advocated for Ishan Kishan and Harshit Rana to be a part of the upcoming World Cup squad.
