We assessed the conditions well as a team - Rohit Sharma buoyed at India’s win over Bangladesh

India romped home in fine fashion as they pocketed a 6-wicket win against Bangladesh to get their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign off to a winning note.
Skipper Rohit Sharma was high in praise for the Men in Blue and at the post-match presentation, the India captain shared his thoughts on how assessing the conditions at play proved to be the game-changer.
Rohit said, “Before you come and play you got to be confident. As the game goes on there are different emotions that come through. But there is a lot of experience in that dressing room. Gill and KL played really well. You play the conditions and try and think about what you do. We assessed the conditions well as a team. You are bound to be under pressure in a tournament like the Champions Trophy.”
Rohit also ensured he made special mention of Shami, who picked up a 5-wicket haul and Gill, for his match-winning century.
He added, “Very happy for him (Shami), long time waiting. We know what he brings to us. We need guys like him to stand up when we need. Gill, we know the class that he has, shouldn't surprise anyone. It was good to see him bat till the end.”
The character he is, Rohit, in his own style, also spoke about dropping the catch that denied Axar Patel a hat-trick while also giving credit for the Bangladesh pair of Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali, who made the most of the drop to stitch a big partnership.
Rohit said, “May take him (Axar) for dinner tomorrow (smiles). No, that was an easy catch, I should have taken that catch with the standards I have set for myself. But I do know these things are bound to happen. Credit to Hridoy and Jaker, they stitched a nice partnership.”
