Watch – Sophie Devine smashes WCPL's first-ever century
It was a grandiloquent start for RCB women’s team opener, Sophie Devine, in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League as she blasted a blistering century for the Guyana Amazon Warriors and also walked away with the Player of the Match award despite her team losing a thrilling encounter against the Barbados Royals.
Devine walked out to open the innings for her team alongside Suzie Bates and stepped on the gas straight away. She showed her first signs of belligerence against the experienced Hayley Matthews, while following that up with another extraordinary showdown against the seasoned Chinelle Henry.
None of the Royals bowlers were given any sort of breathing space as the experienced Kiwi campaigner smashed 103 from 64 balls, smoking 10 fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 160.94. Not only did Devine shine with the bat, she also clinched the crucial wicket of the big-hitting Laura Harris as well.
In what was an extraordinary display of power hitting, Devine smashed the bowlers to all parts of the part and in the process, penned history at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, becoming the first woman to score a century in the WCPL.
She brought up the milestone with a massive six over the cover region and if you were unlucky to miss out on the brilliant knock, you can view it through the link below:
