Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out of Asia Cup with an injury

The defending champions of Asia Cup, Sri Lanka will be entering the tournament with four of their key players missing. Out of the four sidelined with injuries, Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the biggest names, after the all-rounder picked up a thigh strain in the playoffs of the recently concluded Lankan Premier League.

Kusal Perera, who was set to return to the international squad after a staggering hiatus of two years is still battling with a flu and will be joining with the squad after he recovers. Three other crucial players who will entirely miss the entirety Asia Cup 2023 include the likes of Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara.

Binura Fernando and Pramod Madushan were late inclusions to make up for the void that is caused by the spate of injuries in the Sri Lanka squad. 

Chameera won’t be a part of the tournament due to a pectoral injury while Madushanka hurt himself during a practice game. Kumara is still nursing a side strain and will take time to return to the peak of his fitness.
