n a shocking announcement, one of the finest bowlers in the shorter formats of the game, Wanindu Hasaranga has opted to retire from Test cricket as reported by Sri Lankan cricket.

Hasaranga’s claim to fame is his ability to fox the best of batters with his bag of tricks, evident by some of the biggest names in world cricket who struggle to pick his variations.

In a release by Sri Lanka cricket, it said, “Sri Lanka men’s all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has informed Sri Lanka Cricket that he will retire from playing test cricket. Informing his decision, Hasaranga said the reason behind the move is to prolong his career as a limited-overs specialist.”

With his prowess across the sport’s fast lanes, he never really could bag a place in the Sri Lankan Test side. From four Tests, he picked up just four wickets, adding further light to Hasaranga’s decision to quit the longest format of the game.

Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka cricket, said, “We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball program going forward.”

Hasaranga has been a vital asset for B-Love Kandy in the ongoing Lankan Premier League and will be hoping to deliver similar numbers for the franchise as the knock-outs loom.
