VVS Laxman explains Rishabh Pant’s selection; backs him to come good
The Indian fans are pretty split about Rishabh Pant as the southpaw couldn’t make the most of the opportunities that came his way in the ODI series against New Zealand. Despite being massively successful in the longest format of the game, Pant’s battery has dried up in the shorter formats.
With questions about Pant intensifying, especially with Sanju Samson in the fold, VVS Laxman, India’s stand-in coach for the recently concluded New Zealand tour explained why the Delhi-based hard-hitter continues to be backed.
Talking to Prime Video, Laxman said, “Pant has been doing well at no.4, not too long ago he scored an important century at Old Trafford and it's important to back him."
As Rahul Dravid returns to the Indian fold with the Men in Blue taking over the mantle for the Indo-Bangladesh series, VVS Laxman will resume his role as the chief at the NCA. Laxman seemed to be pretty pleased with the youngsters on the New Zealand tour.
“It (coaching role) is fully satisfying, obviously it's only a stop-gap arrangement but it's been fun working with the young guys. It's about the combination you want to play for each game. India is blessed to have a strong depth of talent and bench strength”, concluded the interim Indian coach.
