Shikhar Dhawan reveals his thoughts on the performance of youngsters against New Zealand
India had a pretty decent outing overall in New Zealand after they lifted the T20I series and started on a pretty decent note with the bat in the ODIs but found themselves to be unfortunate at the end of the day as Tom Latham led the show for the Kiwis in the opener. The Indian batters couldn’t get going in the series finale with only Washington Sundar and Shreyas Iyer leading the charge.
Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan was disappointed with rain playing spoilsport but was pretty happy in the way the Indian youngsters delivered on the biggest podium. Talking at the post-match presentation, Dhawan said, “We are a young unit, and they must have learnt about bowling in the good-length areas.”
He further added, “We were on the shorter side. Also, taking the partnerships deep, especially when it's overcast. In Bangladesh, all senior players will be back. That will be a more practical journey towards the World Cup.” The stand-in Indian skipper concluded about the lessons learnt by the fresh faces, stating, “It is important to pick up the details: like where to pitch the ball and the lengths."
India will now shift their focus to Bangladesh as they will be meeting their neighbours in a three-match ODI series followed by two Test matches in December in the latter’s backyard.
