On a day of cricket dominated by the Indian batsmen, Virat Kohli’s 36* was of significant salience as he also earned a new feat to his name. Before Kohli came out to bat, India scorched earth for the Islanders as the two openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed centuries, leaving the West Indies bowlers struggling for a way out of continued misery with the ball.

Allaying the fears of a Caribbean turnaround after Rohit and Shubman Gill’s quick dismissals, Kohli dropped anchor at one end, allowing Jaiswal to continue toying with the West Indian side at his own will. At the end of the second day’s play, Virat stayed unbeaten for 36 from 96 balls, showcasing his premium resilience and understanding he has of the game.

During his short stay in the center, he earned another feat in his continued climb up the ladder of greatness, surpassing legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag’s Test tally of 8503 runs.

Kohli’s current haul stands at 8515 runs which is 12 ahead of Sehwag’s tally for India in Test cricket, and the former occupies 5th position for most runs scored by an Indian batsman and he is also only 266 runs behind another Test icon, VVS Laxman. Sunil Gavaskar (10122 runs), current Indian cricket team coach Rahul Dravid (13265 runs) and the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar (15921 runs) occupy the top three slots.
