Even though it was a Rohit Sharma-showdown that took Delhi by storm, Virat Kohli stayed unbeaten till the end to help India to the finish line against Afghanistan in the World Cup 2023 clash. He scored a fine 55 to ensure that the Men in Blue lost no further wicket and coasted home comfortably. During his stay in the center, he also penned his name in the history books as he went past Sachin Tendulkar in terms of the runs scored in both the ODI and T20I World Cups combined.

Kohli surpassed Tendulkar’s tally of 2778 runs in World Cups in his 53rd innings at the grandest stage of all, at an average of 60. In the 28 ODI innings that Kohli has batted, he has smashed 1164 runs at an average of 50.60 while registering two centuries and seven half-centuries.

When it comes to only ODI World Cups, Virat is the third-highest Indian run-scorer with Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly being the only ones ahead of him. Coming to his exploits in T20 World Cups, he has played in five of them, while registering 1141 runs from 25 innings at an average of 81.50.

Virat Kohli will be hoping to continue his scintillating form as Pakistan is next among India’s opponents in the ongoing World Cup. The Men in Blue will be desperate to secure a victory over their arch-rivals as that would maintain their winning streak in the 50-over format, which is currently 7-0 in favour of India.
