As India comfortably surged past Afghanistan riding high on Rohit Sharma’s imperious brilliance in the World Cup 2023 match, a list of records was toppled, both by the Indian skipper and also the team collectively.

In this long haul of feats racked up, Virat Kohli also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run-scorer in both ODI and T20 World Cups combined.

Here is a list of all the records that were achieved during India’s triumph against Afghanistan (both individual and team feats).

·      India registered the highest run-rate in a 250-plus successful chase in an ODI as they reached the finish line at 7.8 rpo.

·      This was India’s second highest successful chase in an ODI hosted in Delhi. The highest still remains 278 that came against Sri Lanka in 1982.

·      This was India’s fourth-highest successful run-chase in World Cups with the top run-chase coming in 2015 against Zimbabwe.

·      Rohit Sharma became the second highest run-scorer in the first 10 overs of a World Cup innings with 76 runs. Brendon McCullum is at the first spot with 77.

·      The Indian captain registered the most number of hundreds in successful World Cup chases with three tons, leapfrogging the illustrious likes of Gordin Greenidge, Ramiz Raza and Stephen Fleming.

·      This was India’s second highest powerplay score in an ODI with 94 runs.  The first though came in Hobart against Sri Lanka in 2012.

·      Rohit Sharma surpassed Chris Gayle’s old record (553) to become the man with the highest number of sixes in international cricket with 556 maximums.

.      This was also Rohit Sharma’s 7th century in the ODI World Cup, making him the batter with most centuries ever at the big stage.

.      Rohit also brought up his century in 63 balls, the fastest century for an Indian player in World Cup history.
